Details you can’t change
You cannot change your business name. If you want to change the registered business name under which you carry on business, you must register a new business name.
You cannot change your date or place of birth on the business names register either. If these details are wrong, you should request a correction.
Effective date
For each change made, you will be asked to provide the effective date of the change. The effective date is the date the change happened, or will happen. It can be a date in the past or up to three months into the future to help you plan for example, for an office move.
The business names register will be updated once this change has been submitted and approved or, if it is a future date, on that date.
Business addresses
As a business name holder, you will need to provide:
- a street address in Australia for the service of documents, where official documents can be delivered to the business name holder, and
- a street address in Australia for the principal place of business, the main place where business is carried out in Australia.
